Chocolate And Caramel Glazed Liege Waffle Donuts {A Stroke Of Genius}

In my neighborhood we have had tons of young families move in recently! I am super happy about this influx of kids for my kids to play with, and also some new friends! Unfortunately my life has been a bit of a boggle lately, and I had yet to really meet many of these newcomers. :( I kept hearing from my friends all about so and so, and so and so.... I am so bad with names, that if I don't meet these people in person I just can't keep track of who they even are. I am the one in my neighborhood who is always out of the loop with people, because I am in that "mommy bubble" where I don't get to socialize much. Part of my name remembering deficit is also a hitch in my nature. Oh well. We cant all be perfect right? Anywhooo, I decided that even though my house is under construction outside (whole other story) a few friends and I would host a dessert and drinks social to meet these peeps! I am so glad I did. It was super fun, and I am thrilled with the way it all turned out.

You all know how much I love liege waffles. They are world changing and I shall never turn back from their amazingness. I was trying to decide whether I should just do a waffle bar as a kind of dessert, but the thought of using a chocolate glaze was itching in the back of my mind, and I decided I should make donuts out of these lovely waffles. Does it get much better than a liege waffle? Yes, dip it in some glaze and drizzle it with dark chocolate glaze and sprinkles and you have a serious problem on your hands!!! These might be my favorite dessert I have ever created. That is saying something, since we all know I make desserts on the regular. These are my new love, and I have been dying to find another reason to whip some up. :) For drinks I made some Italian sodas, and honestly I liked them but they weren't my all time favorite and the recipe needs a little tweaking, so I am only going to share the waffle donuts today. :)

Oh my heavens... Could you just die these look so good. I'm telling you.... As good as these look, they taste even better. YES!

Well, lets get started on these yummy creations. I didn't take my usual step by step photos of this process since I have already done an in depth post HERE on how to make the Liege Waffles. Once you have finished cooking all the batter in the batch let the waffles cool on a cooling rack. While they cool a bit you can whip up your glazes. The plain-old glaze is super easy and all you do is add each of the glaze ingredients to a medium bowl and give it a hearty whisking. Done! *This glaze recipe was adapted from Pioneer Woman's donut glaze.

Next you should set up a little drip dry station. Here's what I did. Take a baking sheet, put a liner in it and place a cooling rack over top. Dip a waffle into the glaze on both sides and let the excess drain off into the bowl before placing the waffle onto the cooking rack to finish dripping off. Repeat until all the waffles have been glazed.

For the chocolate glaze, melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add corn syrup, milk and vanilla. Whisk until combine. Reduce heat to low and add chocolate. Whisk until chocolate is melted. Remove from heat and add powdered sugar. Combine well and whisk until smooth. *This chocolate glaze was adapted from Alton Brown's chocolate donut glaze.

For caramel glaze, melt butter in a large pot. Add sugar, milk and honey. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, stirring consistently. Reduce heat to low and continue stirring while it simmers until the color changes from light to a golden color. (Will take about 7 minutes). Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour in powdered sugar to the desired thickness. (As it cools it will thicken more). *I altered my buttermilk caramel syrup recipe and made it into a glaze/frosting. I love the way it turned out. :)

Once your glazes are all done, drizzle a healthy amount of either chocolate or caramel (or get crazy and do some of both!!) over the glazed waffles. Sprinkle some multicolored sprinkles on top and let them set for about 20-30 minutes before serving.

Bow-chicka-wow-wow! Those are killer little devils. I need some!!

I thoroughly enjoyed both the caramel and chocolate glazes and I don't think I could pick a favorite. You might have some glaze left over. Or maybe not... ;) I hope you get a change to fall in love with these little waffle donuts. I know I did. Happy Cooking!! And happy Labor Day too!
